PACKING UP AND MOVING OUT

Hello everybody.
Today's (or rather, tonight's)post is slightly different from the rest of my posts. This one is more of an 'informative advertisement'.
I believe that change is good and is something that we all need if we are ever going to get anywhere in life, so I have decided to start fresh and change things up with my blog.
Yes, as you can tell from the title, I'm 'moving house' as I decided to put it (however thinking back, this may be slightly confusing).
I didn't just want to delete my blog and start a new one here. Likewise I most certainly didn't want to delete my blog and never ever blog again for the rest of my days... I love blogging- it makes me happy.
So, the most logical thing I thought to do was to simply start a new blog using a different blogging site; I opted for WordPress in the end.
The blog is going to be fairly similar to this one as I'm not going to complete reinvent myself- that's not a true reflection of who I am.
I just wanted to mix things up a lil' bit because, to be honest, this blog just wasn't doing it for me anymore... it wasn't making me happy.
I've only had this new blog for a short while and already I am so much happier and at home blogging again. I think this was the change I needed.
So, in case anyone would like to come on this new adventure with me, here is my new blog URL...
and hopefully we will meet again some day in the 'blogging realm'.
See you on the other side...

LACKING MOTIVATION

Hi my little... potato cupcakes? I'm trying to think of a cute lil' name for you guys but clearly I'm not very good at it, if you have any suggestions, do let me know in the comments.
Todays post is about motivation, or the lack of motivation I've been experiencing lately, for that matter. Sometimes it is just sooo hard staying motivated and getting things done. I find that I can stay focused for about 20-30 minutes.. and then I lose all motivation and can't get anything else done.
This is a particular problem for me when I am trying to get coursework or homework done. Take this morning for example, I got up early so that I could get my coursework wrapped up early and have the rest of the day to myself. I did a good 30 minutes of work, while listening to Christmas music (I know I'm early but don't kill me), but after I got halfway through, I found that the quality of my writing was plummeting! This is not going to get me as much marks as I need to get into my university course, so I decided to stop and do some online shopping instead. Can you see why this is a problem?
There has also been very little motivation for a blog post this week. Do you guys ever find it difficult to think so something to write about? I haven't had a very interesting week, nor have I taken any 'blog worthy' photographs this week and unfortunately, this means I've had very little to write about (hence why I'm writing about having nothing to write about).
However, when I feel my motivation beginning to slip, there are 3 simple things I do to clear my mind and I'm going to share these things with you, in the hopes that they'll help if ever you experience a sudden drop in your motivation.
1. Take a break. Sometimes it isn't a lack of motivation you're experiencing, sometimes you've just fried your brain and need to take a lil' break before getting back at it. When I say break, I don't mean week long holiday to Bora Bora, I mean a 10 minute 'pause'. Go to the toilet, make a snack, drink some water, really you can do anything that doesn't involve thinking about your work. Don't go off and watch 4 episodes of Keeping Up With The Kardashians or (like me) go on a cheeky spending spree on the internet. Just take a while to clear your mind and chill out.
2. Listen to some relaxing music. This is great for clearing your mind and ensuring that when you get back work, your mind is nice and fresh and ready to get back into it. It doesn't even have to be relaxing music (but I find it works best).
3. Shower or cleanse your face. Personally I think having a clean body equates to having a clean mind. When I feel all grubby and dirty and my hair isn't clean, I just feel like I am not on my game and everything I do, is done half-ass. I absolutely hate this feeling, but its amazing how a simple shower can clear up your mind and make you think clearer.
These are just what I find very helpful when I've hit a bump in the road and am struggling to stay focused and motivated.
I'm sorry if this post is a bit rubbish and you didn't like it very much, hopefully next week will be better.
How was your week? Did you do anything exciting?
Until next time...

MY FAVOURITE AUTUMN EYE LOOK

Oh hi there, Sunday! It's that time of the week again and let me tell you something.. I have been sooo excited to make this post because for once in my life I planned ahead, made little notes and took pictures in advance! I know, this sh*t just got serious.
So today I'll be showing you my favourite eye look for this time of the year (Autumn, in case you're reading this in Summer 2020 or something). Autumn, by far, is my favvvvourite time of the year. I love absolutely everything about it. The smells, the colours, the clothes, the food, the weather (as I'm writing this the sun is pouring in my bedroom windows and its bucketing rain!). Honestly, what's not to love about Autumn?
So without rambling on too much, let's get into the makeup, shall we?

This is the eye look that I have been currently loving this season. It's a simple gold eye look and I just adore wearing this look! I honestly get soso many compliments when I do my makeup like this and it just makes me so happy!
I don't tend to use very expensive/high end/big brand makeup quite simply because I am but a smol child and can't afford to splash out on really expensive makeup... but I find that these little cheapies are just as good at doing the job.
The eyeshadow I'm using here is an unbranded palette that I received for Christmas a few years ago, I also used the Peaches and Cream Loose Eyeshadow Pigment in the shade Disco, my eyeliner is something called Seventeen High Drama Intense Liquid Eyeliner and for my lashes I am wearing Rimmel London Wake Me Up Wonderful on the top and Rimmel London Lash Accelerator Endless on my bottom lashes!

I won't pretend to be an expert on makeup, if anything I would describe myself as 'fairly adequate' but I do hope you enjoyed this little post and do let me know if you would like more makeup looks in the future.
Also, can anyone tell me an easier way to format pictures onto a post because I struggle to get them in the places I want them to sit?
Until next time...

LITTLE THINGS TO DO FOR YOU

Looking after yourself can be hard. For me, there just doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day to be able to do myself justice, so much to do and so little time, as the saying goes. BUT there is a way you can look after yourself, without having to go all out. So without further ado, here are a few things I do for myself!

Drink Water: this is so simple, yet so many people forget it. You should aim to drink around 8 glasses of water a day, but how many of us actually do this? I know I don't, and I suffer for it. I'm talking sore heads, dry skin, breakouts and a really horrible feeling that my body is full of toxins. However, I find that when I drink a least a bottle of water a day, these aren't major problems for me.
Shower: once again, its so simple, yet so simply forgotten. Showering or bathing is the best way to get rid of all the negative energy you may have picked up from the previous day. There is something about having a nice, hot shower; its almost as though I'm giving myself a fresh start!
Sleep: now at this point you may be thinking "seriously, who is gonna forget to sleep?" but it isn't necessarily about whether you do sleep (everyone has to sleep) but more about how many hours you get a night. I would say on average I get about 5-6 hours a night, which may seem like a lot, but isn't enough. You need at least 8 hours sleep a night in order for your body to function effectively. I would recommend that about 30 minutes before you plan to go to bed, give yourself a little pamper session, read a book and stay the hell away from social media as you'll only be sucked into the black hole that we call the internet and by the time you look out the window, the sun will have risen and you won't have slept a wink.
Tan and Makeup: this one's more for the gals (but don't feel excluded boys, you can participate in this too). I love makeup. I love experimenting with new eye looks, I love practicing my brows and eyeliner, I love finding new eyeshadow and lipstick combos... I just love it and for me, doing my makeup is sooo therapeutic and relaxing. I simply get lost in a land of foundations and highlighters. And don't even get me started on tan. You could be having the worst day of your life, but by applying a coat of tan, you can turn that day around! I feel so much more confident and self-assured when I'm wearing tan and it makes every outfit look a million times better!
Me Time: this is proper 'Me Time'. This is the time when you put your phone on the charger in a different room, when you slide your laptop to the other side of the desk, when you sit back and put your feet up and just enjoying spending a little bit of time in your own company. It sounds lonely, I get that, but sometimes what we desperately need in life is 15 minutes where there is absolutely no one asking anything of us. Have a bath, light a candle and just relax... your body and mind will thank you for it.
Treat Yo'self: treating yourself is something that everyone needs to start doing. Why in God's name are you waiting for someone to buy you a gift, when you can buy yourself a gift? There is no shame in buying yourself that new makeup product you've been dying to try, or slashing out on that gorgeous pair of shoes you've had your eye on for the past week. You can be your own admirer! To be fair, sometimes you can go a tad overboard with this one, I'm guilty of this (and believe me, it probably does more damage than it does good) but there is a feeling of euphoria when you spend a couple of extra pounds on yourself, just because you deserve it.
These things are easy to do and actually enjoyable once you get into the swing of things, so if you've been looking for a sign to turn things around, or a gentle nudge in the right direction, consider this it. You are the only person who can truly look out for you.
Until next time...

CINNAMON AND APPLE CUPCAKES

The days are getting shorter, the evenings are getting darker and everything is becoming slightly more festive..so with that all said, I've decided to bake some seasonal cupcakes!
There are two separate recipes here: one for the actual cupcakes and one for the icing.

For the cupcakes you will need:
  • 230g of plain flour
  • 155g of caster sugar
  • 125g of unsalted butter
  • 2tsp of baking soda/powder
  • 1tsp of ground cinnamon
  • 1tsp of vanilla extract
  • 1/8tsp of salt
  • 2 medium size eggs
  • 2 medium bramely cooking apples
Method:
  • Pre-heat the oven to 180°C
  • Add the butter and sugar to a bowl and mix until you have a light consistency
  • Add the eggs, vanilla extract and caster sugar and combine together
  • Add the flour, baking soda, cinnamon and salt and mix until everything is well combined
  • Core, peel and chop the apples to your desired size and place in a saucepan of water
  • Simmer for approximately 5 minutes, drain the water and leave to cool
  • Fold the apples into the cupcake mix
  • Bake for 30 minutes or until a knife comes out clean when inserted to the centre of the cupcake

For the icing you will need:
  • 100g of soft brown sugar
  • 250g of unsalted butter
  • 400g of icing sugar
  • 1tsp of vanilla extract
  • 1tsp of cinnamon
  • 2tsp of whole milk
Method:
  • Add the butter, brown sugar, cinnamon and vanilla extract to a bowl and mix until light and fluffy
  • Add the icing sugar, bit by bit while still mixing
  • Add the milk and continue to mix until the icing reaches a creamy consistency but is still firm enough to hold it's shape when piped onto the cupcakes

I would love to see any recipes you have that get you into a festive mood !
Until next time...

GETTING ORGANISED

I love September, plain and simple.
During September you can literally sit and watch the world transition from roasting hot days on the beach to cosy nights in front of the fire...it marks the beginning of my favourite time of year.
But there's another reason why I love September...organisation!
For many of us, the coming of September brings with it school, and with this comes the opportunity to get really organised and take control of your life (after maybe letting go a little bit over the summer).
I tend to take full advantage of this... I really go to town. Notebooks, folders, dividers, sticky notes, pens, pencils, ring binders, poly pockets, diaries, markers, calendars, white boards, you name it and I've probably just purchased it from my local stationary shop. But there's nothing wrong with that, actually, to me, it feels as though I'm finally doing everything right!
Of course, you don't have to go all out and buy every single pen, pencil and notebook you come across, but I'm sure that at least getting a notebook and making a list of things you have to do before the end of the month, or things you have planned for next month, will lift the weight of the world off your shoulders (you're probably more likely to actually do these things too).
That's what I'm doing. I'm making lists. Lists for school. Lists regarding social plans. Lists regarding work. And lists for this blog. I'll be writing down potential blog ideas, having a good hard think about when my 'posting day' should be and just generally getting organised with my life.
Although some people despise the idea of making a 'to-do list', I would urge you to try it. You might surprise yourself.
Until next time...

BACK TO SCHOOL

Ah, it's that time again- back to school. Although this is merely another day in the journey to having a fancy degree to our name for some, for others this is a very daunting experience.
I know, for myself, that starting back at school brings various different feelings.
I love getting organised! Notebooks, folders, pens, pencils, diaries, post-it notes, calendars, all of it is my guilty pleasure (I know, how sad is that?). But that's just my thing. Sure, summer is amazing and filled with spontaneous adventures, but there is something about getting organised and back into a routine that really excites me.
However, like every teen I too have my moments when I think "Do I really need an education?" and the answer for me (unfortunately) is yes. School for me was never an easy thing. I got bullied in my first year of secondary school and although I don't get bullied anymore, that experience has left a mark on how I view school. I'm an introvert, meaning I don't necessarily put the biggest effort into starting conversations with people, which then leads to me spending a lot of time in my own head or staring into space. Yes, this tends to mean that I get a little lonely throughout the day (don't get me wrong, I have friends but I don't spend every minute of the school day with them) but this time I have to myself comes with a sliver lining as it means that I am able to focus on my studies and therefore do quite well in all of my classes.
I know that bullying is a serious problem for many people and it can lead to people not coming to school for fear that they may be hurt or made fun of. Here is some advice that really is very simple an easy to follow: if you or someone you know is being bullied, the best thing you could possibly do is tell an adult that you trust.
Of course there are other reasons that some people despise the thought of going back to school. Anxiety is another issue for me, for example I get anxious in large crowds and when I'm surrounded by people I don't really talk to, but I also get very anxious at the thought of being late or looking stupid in front of my classmates. This, obviously, impacts my education as I feel as though I can't ask questions when I don't understand something.
However school can be someone's favourite place in the world..it may be their escape from a bad time at home or they may simply find comfort in seeing their friends- everyone is different.
I started school today and am now into my last year of education before university, which means that I'm going to be very busy (already I have two open days at some universities to attend next week) and A-Level work is much more demanding than AS and GCSE.
I think I'm going to pick a day (probably a Friday as I'll have some free time) to post weekly and keep a schedule so be sure to look out for posts!
Did anyone else start school this week?
Until next time...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BREAKFAST

Today was my brother's birthday; he turned 13 years old. Although 13 isn't as widely celebrated as some other birthdays- for example a sweet 16, turning 18, turning 21, hitting 40 years old etc- I would still consider it a special birthday.
Turning 13 years old marks the beginning of your teenage life. You are no longer a child that needs to be protected from the big bad world, but a teenager that is  transitioning into the world of adult responsibilities (don't worry, you won't be expected to start paying bills and what have you). You begin to go out more with your friends, make more plans and (the worst of all) get sucked into the black hole that is the internet.
To celebrate my brother's special day I decided to throw him a Birthday Breakfast. It's slightly unconventional and different than your regular birthday party. It was small and quiet but it didn't have to be big and in your face as I was only filling in for my mother and father who both had to work; they can sort out the real celebrations later.
I got up early (I'm an early riser anyway so this wasn't an issue) and headed downstairs to get everything set up. I got the helium balloon from the cupboard it was hidden in, retrieved the bag of goodies from my car and set everything out on plates.
Then it was time to make the pancakes, at which point I realised we had no eggs and had to pop to the shop in a shabby outfit and bed hair (I will post the recipe for the pancakes at a later stage perhaps). Once the pancakes were done I topped it off with a little flag, lit some candles and was just waiting for my sister and her boyfriend to arrive.
My brother woke shortly after and was delighted with his small breakfast party (he said he will plan one for me when I turn 18 this year)and took no time at all in getting stuck into opening his presents (money in a card from my sister, a scratch card in a card from my sister's boyfriend and an electric toothbrush from me).
It was such an enjoyable way to spend a birthday and he's invited his friends around to the house and they're going to the amusements later tonight.
This morning has shown me that you really don't have to go all out to celebrate someone's birthday, sometimes the little things you do really do mean the world to people and that truly warms my heart.
Until next time...

SECOND CHANCE SUMMER : BOOK REVIEW

I'm a book worm. I love finding an amazing book that can entrance and transport me to a world that is somehow better than my own... we all need a little escape sometimes, and I just happen to escape by diving head first into a world that isn't my own.
I have just finished a wonderful book: Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson. This is the second book I've read from Morgan Matson and I have to say I truly enjoy reading her work. She writes in such a way that you can really relate to some aspect of the novel.
Without giving too much away, this book is about the Edwards family, who have never been close to each other. However, when Robin Edwards is diagnosed with Stage Four Pancreatic Cancer, the family decided to take one last trip to their lake house for the summer. This proves to be a problem for eldest daughter, Taylor, as the last time she was at the Lake, she left her best friend and boyfriend without an explanation.
It's a story of love, loss and discovering yourself as we follow Taylor through her struggle of coming to terms with her Father's illness and making amends with the people she left behind.
Second Chance Summer made me laugh, it made me cry, and it made me reconsider my own relationship with my family, but what I love the most about this book is that it made me feel.
I would highly recommend giving this book a read, as I am 100% sure that you'll not  be disappointed. Also check out other novels by Morgan Matson as they are equally as heart warming and emotional.
Let me know if you would like more book reviews. I really enjoy expressing my feelings about my most recent read but unfortunately can't find anyone willing to listen for more than 3 minutes!
Until next time...

AND THE RESULTS ARE IN

So it's that time of the year again: results day. I am going into my last year of school before university and today I got my AS results. For those of you who don't know what A-Level and AS exams are, A-Levels are the exams you do in your very last year of school and the results determine whether you can do your preferred course in university. AS exams are the exams you do in your second last year of school that count towards your final results.
Today I got up at 7:00am and drove to school to find out the results of the exams that I can barely remember doing in May... I got 3 B's. Do not be fooled by the tone in which you may be reading this post, I am very pleased with my results (especially given the fact that I didn't start studying until at least 2 days before each exam).
I'm not a big headed person, but I know I'm intelligent, as is every single being on this earth. At the end of the day, exam results do not define who you are as a person, and that, my lovlies, is what truly counts. I would rather have received 3 E's and know I have a good heart than 3 A's and be known for being an ignorant, know-it-all.
So, if you're opening your own envelope of exam results today and are slightly disappointed at the outcome, just remember that you are so much more than those little letters printed on a sheet of paper. Exams do not test your intelligence, they test your ability to remember certain facts and as a human being, you are so much more than what you can remember about the effects of obesity on an individual's psychological well being (something I had to memorise for one of my exams)and amazing exam results doesn't guarantee a successful future, the same way failing your exams doesn't mean you're going to end up homeless and unemployed.
Whatever you take away from this post, I want you to know that each and every one of you is unique and extraordinarily talented in your own way- don't you dare let anyone try to tell you that you're not enough.
Until next time...

CURRENT FAVOURITE SKINCARE PRODUCTS

For years I have struggled with having both oily and dry skin. When I was a child, this obviously didn't bother me as I was usually covered in dirt from being outside from dawn to dusk everyday, but now that I'm older and have dived into the world of makeup, it's become a slight problem.
Like everyone else on this little planet in our solar system, I have my favourite skincare products, and today I'm going to share them with you. All of these products are cheap and can be purchased from your local drugstore.
The first product is the Nivea Daily Essentials Gentle Exfoliating Scrub. This is a very simple face scrub with vitamin E and Hydra IQ. It has little balls/crystals in it that removes dead skin cells and  leaves your skin feeling smooth and fresh. It has a lovely sweet smell, yet it isn't strong enough to make you feel ill. I have noticed a HUGE improvement in my skin since I started using this- my dry skin is less noticeable and my face feels softer and smoother!
Next up is the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water and oh my days this is a God send! It removes makeup and cleanses your face like nothing I have ever seen before! For such a simple product (it's literally water) it does exactly what it says on the bottle! It gets right into your pores and doesn't include any harmful perfumes that could potentially damage your face and you don't have to rinse it off after using it. This product has literally saved my life (or should I say my face?) many times after a night out when I can't be bothered rummaging around for makeup removal wipes!
Finally we have the Simple Kind To Skin Hydrating Moisturiser. Now, as I mentioned earlier, I have both dry AND oily skin, so it has been particularly hard to find a product that will hydrate my skin without making it ooze oil (I apologise for any graphic images of a face oozing oil that may have popped into your head). When my sister recommended that I use this, I wasn't hopeful. But after I had been using it for about a week I was pleasantly surprised to find how well it hydrated my skin while keeping my face oil free for the majority of the day. It is made of natural ingredients which is great for me as I tend to take small allergic reactions to products that have too many chemicals in them and with this product, a little bit goes a long way. I would say that you only need a blob the size of a Malteser (a pea might be a tad too small to do your whole face) and tadahh! you have one hydrated face and are ready to rock your day!
I would love to know of any other products that have the power to tackle a dry yet oily face, so comment your favourite products and I just might give them a try!
Until next time...

AN INTRODUCTION

I've had this blog sitting empty on my laptop for a while now and I finally decided that it's time I do something with it- it's summer and I'm not getting any younger!
As of yet, I'm not 100% sure what I will write about here, but writing is one of my favourite things to do, so what better way to express my love for it?
So, just to give you a little bit of information about me: my name is Ciara and I am from Ireland, I am turning 18 years old in December, I got my driving licence in June, I love reading, writing, music and spontaneous adventures (even the little ones to McDonald's at 2am) and I have a dog and a guinea pig both whom I absolutely adore!
I'm not certain how often I will update this blog but I'm really hoping that I can stay motivated to write and find things to write about.
Until next time...
